Answers to the questions people ask most about Amote for iPhone and Apple Watch: pairing, finding your TV, casting, and Amote Pro. Still stuck? Write to us, a real person answers.
What Amote needs
A TV, box or stick running Google TV or Android TV, with its built‑in remote service (most have it out of the box).
Your iPhone and your TV on the same Wi‑Fi network. Guest networks and some mesh or office networks keep devices apart.
When iOS asks, allow Amote to find devices on your local network. Without it the app cannot see your TV.
Casting photos and videos uses the Chromecast built‑in on your TV. The remote itself does not need it.
Amote is a Wi‑Fi remote, not an infrared one: a TV that only listens for infrared won't hear it. You never need to turn on developer options or wireless debugging on your TV.
You only do this once per TV
A 6‑character code made of the digits 0–9 and the letters A–F, for example 4B7E21. It appears on your TV screen, not on your phone. Type it exactly as shown.
The search ends without your TV
Some older Android TV devices need the latest version of the TV's built‑in remote service. Update the apps on your TV from its own app store, restart the TV, and try again.
Amote is for TVs, boxes and sticks that run Google TV or Android TV with the built‑in remote service. Devices that run other TV software, or plain Android without Google's TV software, have nothing to pair with.
Open a search box on the TV first (for example in an app's search), then tap the keyboard key in Amote. Your words appear on the TV as you type.
Switch with D‑pad | Swipe above the pad. On the swipe pad: swipe to move, tap to select, hold for long presses, and two fingers up or down for volume. Settings has the D‑pad size, swipe sensitivity, haptics and a left‑handed layout.
Volume and power go to the device you paired. If it is a box or stick, the TV's own volume may need HDMI‑CEC turned on in the TV's settings. Some TVs ignore power‑on over Wi‑Fi from deep standby.
Keep Amote open while the TV plays photos or videos from your iPhone: your phone is serving them over your Wi‑Fi.
Your TV needs Chromecast built‑in, and it must be on the same Wi‑Fi. Turn the TV on, wait a moment and open the Cast tab again. Nothing needs to be installed on the TV.
Optional subscription, sold through Apple
The remote, keyboard, apps, casting and browser are free. Amote Pro adds the features marked PRO in the app, such as Voice, the Apple Watch app, widgets, the Control Center control and Siri & Shortcuts, and comes with a promise: no ads with Pro. Plans: weekly, monthly or yearly; the price for your country is shown in the app before you buy. No free trial.
Subscribers also find Manage subscription on the Amote Pro screen in the app. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid the next renewal; Pro stays active until the period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, choose the Amote Pro purchase and select "Request a refund". We cannot see or refund App Store payments ourselves.
Pro follows your Apple Account: tap Restore Purchases on another iPhone signed in with the same account. The Apple Watch app gets its Pro status from your iPhone.

No account, no tracking. Remote commands, typed text, voice and the photos and videos you cast go from your iPhone straight to your TV over your Wi‑Fi, never through our servers. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.
